I'm not prompted to sign in when I follow the link to PubMed. How do I access full text articles?
Answer
Because PubMed is a freely accessible database and itself contains no full text articles (other than those in PubMed Central, which are open access), you will not be prompted to sign in when you follow the link to PubMed. This is different than most other databases.
To access an article's full text through Rush, look for the green Get It at Rush button on its PubMed abstract page. The Get It at Rush button will take you to a link to the full text, or, if the article isn't available through Rush's subscriptions, to our interlibrary loan service (ILLiad). You'll be prompted to sign in when you follow one of these links.
Note that Get It at Rush is often one of several links or buttons in PubMed's Full Text Links section. Though the other links in this section may occasionally take you to the full text, you may also be prompted to pay, even if Rush subscribes. This is because Rush does not always purchase the full text directly from the publisher, and even if we do, it may not be provided via the publisher's default source. For example, Elsevier places links to the ScienceDirect platform in PubMed, but many of Rush's Elsevier subscriptions are through the ClinicalKey platform. In cases like this, you would need to use the green Get It at Rush button to go to the full text in ClinicalKey.
