What types of materials can I request through ILLiad/interlibrary loan?

Answer

Interlibrary loan may be used for physical books, book chapters, and journal articles. More information about how these materials are delivered is available here.

Dissertations and theses may be requested (use the Book request form), but are often not available for loan. More information and tips on retrieving theses and dissertations can be found here.

In general, the following types of materials are not available through interlibrary loan:

  • Complete E-books (in epub, PDF, or other digital formats); note that individual book chapters can be requested. Information about what to expect when you place an interlibrary loan request for a book chapter can be found here
  • Bound journals
  • Evaluation instruments and tests
  • CD, DVD and Blu-ray media
  • Streaming media (video, music, audiobooks)
  • Software
  • Access to databases and other online resources not licensed by Rush
